| i have hda5 and hda7; hda5 has 11gig and hda7 has 9.2gig.. i've decided not to separate both. is there a way to merge these two without losing data? |

these are probably not adjecent (hda6 in between), so you can't merge them cause the partitions are physically apart, if you have the room, you should mv all data recreate partitions etc etc, but well you probably won't want that,

yeah, i got hda6 in between which is /usr. i tried to play with parted to see if i could, and well, i can't.
heh. oh well. time to save up for an 80gig. |

Even if they were adjacent, I don't think you could merge them without loosing all the data. You'd need to destroy both partitions and then make a new partition with a new file system.
Maybe you could do it if you had ELVM or VLM in first place, but this is another story.
