While trying to clean out Gnome I cam across this:

Code:

solar root # qpkg -q -nc gnome-print
gnome-base/gnome-print-0.35-r3 *
DEPENDED ON BY:
        gnome-base/bonobo-1.0.19-r1
        gnome-extra/gal-0.20
gnome-base/gnome-print-0.35-r2

solar root # qpkg -q -nc gal
media-libs/svgalib-1.4.3-r1 *
DEPENDED ON BY:
        kde-base/kdeaddons-3.0.4
        media-libs/libsdl-1.2.4.20020601

So KDE have dependencies on gnome or what?

Am I missing something, or is this just the fact that 'svgalib' contains the letters 'gal'?

It's just that. If you do emerge -ep kdeaddons, gal doesn't show up as a dependency.

I do not know the qpkg command, but I assume it searches for the substring "gal", which of course is present in "svGALib". And kde depends on svgalib (or on sld, which depends on svgalib).
What I find more interesting, is the fact, that your search did not show up "gnome-extra/gal-0.20 ".

Just a guess, newbie, too.

Ok that's good to know. I didn't know really how to read the "qpkg -q" output. Anyway, I think it opens a hint possible improvements in the qpkg package regarding search for dependencies
