I'm having the same problem.

USE="3dnow acpi artswrappersuid dvd glut java mmx nvidia sse transcode xvid -cups -foomaticdb -gpm -gnome -libg++ -libwww -mikmod -nls -spell -xv -gdbm -slang -ssl -perl"
CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-mp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -m3dnow -msse -mmmx"
I have emerged ettercap 0.6.b, and that version works... _________________ Cuore Sportivo |

There seems to be a problem with USE="-ssl" Add that output and your emerge info to https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59003 _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

hi,
the compilation of ettercap 7.0 seems to broke too when +debug option set
i got few problems to make an effective compilation but as soon as i changed /etc/make.conf to
USE="-debug"
the recompilation worked fine ;o)
hope it will help
