hi,

Just emerged mplayer. when i open the program (from kde menu) the control deck comes up along with an mplayer window for video. if i open a video file then start to play it another mplayer video window pops up in addition to the original one. at this point video plays in the new window, a black screen appears in the other one and the control deck is locked. can you help?

Thanks,

Grim

forgot to mention this happens with svcd, vcd and divx. haven't really tried any other formats (what others are worth trying =). the video plays, but the other window pops up and control deck is locked.

thanks,

Chris

have you edited ~/.mplayer/config since you emerged mplayer? Take a look at it and change the line 'gui=1' to 'gui=yes' if it exists, otherwise add it and se if it helps

I had the same problem but this did the trick

hi,

thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't seem to help. it's still doing the same thing. no matter why type of movie file i open it always opens a second video window and locks the control deck. i can watch the film, but have no control over it plus an extra video window. anybody else have this problem?

Thanks,

Chris

what happens if you start mplayer from an xterm with the command 'mplayer /path/to/movie'?

There have been discussions about similar problems before and it seems as if this only occur with certain window managers. I'm using windowmaker and can't use the run command to start mplayer so I simply use an xterm when I want to watch a movie.

I'm not sure if my problem was the same- when I ran mplayer the blue mplyer flash screen went fullscreen and blocked everything under it...right mouse bnrought up menu, but when I selected somethig from the menu it appeared *under* this blue screen....

I tried mplayer -rootwindow

it started the same as before but when I selected something from the menu the blue flash screen shrunk down to window size.....now everything works fine....still dont know if I can put this in the ~/.mplayer/config file...if I find out how, I will post it later

hope this helps

Sorry if I what I wrote was unclear. What I meant was that you should replace 'gui =1' with 'gui = yes'.

Try to comment the 'gui = 1' line and se if it works

I am also having this problem with mplayer - am trying some older ebuilds to see if the problem exists with them :-(

Had the same problems, ironically vo=xv instead of vo=sdl fixed the probs for me.

I too was having this problem, and I think I just ran across a solution. I was messing around with changing the -vo option, with no avail. Then I realized to change the driver used for the gui, i needed to change the "vo_driver" setting in ~/.mplayer/gui.conf. This WAS sdl, I changed it to xv, and everything works fine. Hope this works for all of you! :-)
