Hi everyone,
I've come across what I think is an odd problem accessing my os9 hfs (old hfs...not hfs+) partition from my new gentoo ppc install. The problem is with renaming folders and goes like this:
folders can be renamed by root as well as regular users with "rename" from the command line, but not through nautilus (I'm running gnome 2).
here's where it gets interesting....
if nautilus is open to the mounted drive and I attempt to rename a folder from the commad line with "rename" it now fails.
by fail...I mean the whole shebang freezes and I can't back out of X...forced to reboot. After the reboot the folder name is unchanged and no file system corruption is detected (same as what occurs when attempting to rename via nautilus).
any thoughts on what might be going on??
Thanks a lot!

I reccomend using the hutils stuff to modify any HFS things, I've seen strange behaviour like that quite often while trying to do it with it properly mounted into your linux filesystem |
