Wasnt sure where to put this question, "Genereal Linux" is removed.... anyways, ive tried to find a program that can write Nero cdimages (.nrg files) but im not sure if cdrecord or cdrdao supports them, in cdrecord i can acctually burn the image, but i afterwards i cant mount the cd... and cdrdao need an cuesheet (wich .nrg files dont have) anyone have an idea on how to burn these thingies ??? (btw.. Fireburner doesnt support them either, and .nrg files cant be mounted with -lo loop) |

Assuming this is in regards to a Gentoo system, this question belongs right here.
(if it is in regards to a different linux distro, it would go in Off The Wall, which may get a name change in the very near future.)

I'm not sure if you'll find something which can do it on Linux, as nero is propietry format (from what I could comeup with google).
You can use a win program called cdmage which claims it can convert cd image formats (e.g: from nrg to iso). I don;t know the program, just found it with google. _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

I know this thread is somewhat old, but for those who may be interesed, I want to tell that I have succesfully used WinISO 5.3 through winex to convert an .nrg (nero) image to ISO.
.nrg are NOT fully ISO images, and are NOT mountable as -o loop, so it must be converted.

When you go to write the image, click on the "Save As Type" dropdown in the file name menu and select *.iso and Nero makes an ISO image instead of a NRG.
I do this quite often, I use Nero in Win4Lin to make the iso's, and then use cdrecord to burn them to disk. Saves me a re-boot.
Works for me, YMMV.
Cheers,

I just discovered today that SOME .nrg images can be mounted... I think this may be a matter of which version of nero did the image.... so... try to mount the image first, if you get a bad filesystem error, then convert it, with either nero, as Ralphus does, or WinISO [winex] as I do.
BTW, I've heard that nero works under wine, too... _________________ ·-=: lanark :=-· |

Just out of curiousity, is this because of unfamiliarity with mkisofs, or just something you like to do?
(serious question) |

We're talking about .nrg images converting or handling... try to read upper, buddy _________________ ·-=: lanark :=-· |

Yes to both. I don't know much yet about mkisofs, I'm fairly new to Linux. I've been using Nero for years, and it does some things I like. The thing I like the most is that it will warn you if a file name is too long, and give you a chance to change it before you burn the cd. I'm sure that can be done in a native burning program, I just haven't figured it out yet.
Cheers,

I did burn one cd with Nero successfully under Wine, but it was an ugly process. I don't know if it was Wine, Nero, or me. (probably me)

I read the upper, and we've established a way to convert .NRG files.
That's why I asked. But thanks for the info, buddy

Ahh okay, all are very valid reasons! I was just wondering. |
