The topic pretty much says it, I'm using the 2.6.5 kernel on my ultra 80 and no sound at all works ( I was told it was semi-totally broken by one of the gentoo devs ). I would realy like to have atleast cd audio working on this machine and I'm wondering if the newer kernels have fixed the problems that 2.6.5 had with the ultra 80's cs4231 sound.
Thanks for any info folks.

Don't think so - 2.6.7 still has probs with the cs4231 on the Ultra 5 |

bummer. Maybe I'll just go back to the 2.4 series. 2.6 doesn't really offer me anything that 2.4 doesn't except for sound that doesn't work

I'm using the 2.6.12.5 kernel in a Ultra 60 box.
The kernel is OK, but, the alsa doesn't work.
All the devices are created, but, when I start xmms, e click in play:
** WARNING **: SNDCTL_DSP_SETFMT ioctl failed: invalid argument
** WARNING **: SNDCTL_DSP_SPEED ioctl failed: invalid argument
The dmesg shows me:
ALSA sound/core/oss/pcm_oss.c:2073: pcm_oss: unknown command = 0x4010500c
I tried the 2.4, but, I can't use Xorg with it.
Does anybody can help?
Thanks in advance! |

Kernel 2.6.14-rc3 should fix it.
as the changelog mentions :
...
Christopher Zimmermann:
[SPARC] cs4231: Fix SBUS support in this driver.
...
well, it looks strange, for example, the u5 ist a PCI - Bus System, with some parts using the sbus, right ?
got IDE - Disks, a.s.o.
Its realy, realy strange.

If you look a few releases back, you'll notice the PCI fixups came before the SBUS fixups. As to whether it works, I haven't tested it. |
