Hi all,
I've got a couple of Ultra2 boxes...are there wireless nic cards that will work with these? I don't see much info on the forums about this...
TIA,

The orinoco drivers in the kernel does not even compile, currently I am tryin to get wlan-ng (prism2,2.5,3, pci, pcmcia, usb) with a buffelo usb card to work. Everything compiles fine but nothing works, I have been in contact with wlan-ng developers and hopefully we can make it work, that's all I know

No, there is nothing that will work in an Ultra2. There is no PCI in an Ultra2 so there are no cards that will plug in. Your best bet for wireless would be a wired to wireless bridge adapter. |

I know the Ultra 5 is PCI, but the following may be helpful... (with a Netgear MA311 PCI Wireless)
Kernel 2.4.2[34] will compile with the orinoco drivers (orinoco and orinoco_pci) but I got firmware initialisation errors whe loading the modules.
I did look at getting wlan-ng working, but getting it to compile on sparc seemed problematic.
Kernel 2.6.[34] will also compile with orinoco drivers but this time they work a treat.
Prior to upgrading to 2.6 kernel, I was using a Linksys WAP11 in Client mode. - Basically you http onto the linksys to set Client mode up, and set your WEP key, then connect the WAP11 to your Ultra using a CAT-5 crossover cable, and bingo - all wired up without wires. |

What about WPA? Are there any drivers that permit accessing WLANs encrypted using WPA? _________________ Bookcrossing rocks |

hi,
did i understand this right:
an orinoco wireless pci nic will work on a ultra 5 if there's kernel 2.6 running?
i ask, because i got a dlink 520+ nic (yeah, i know, it's crap, but it's a long story), which oviously won't work due to the fact, that it needs windows firmware binaries to load at startup.
and i really need the ultra5 to connect wireless...
regards,

You got it.
The Netgear card works fine but you MUST have a 2.6 series kernel (I'm up to 2.6.7 now)...Use the built in orinoco / orinoco_pci driver. |
