search contents of not installed packages

hi!

is it somehow possible to search the contents of packages which are not currently installed? e.g. if i need the program 'psselect', how do i know i have to merge 'app-text/psutils'? i miss somethin like http://packages.debian.org/...

none of the gentoolscripts can manage this... at least i don't know which and how.

but i think it's not possible to do it at all, because this kind of information is not stored on a gentoo box unless every package is merged while all USE settings are enabled ;-)
