Hello,

I am in a need of getting a new PC. I have searched over several websites such as newegg.com, pricewatch.com and tigerdirect.com. The only problem is that the prices are in US dollars and they don't ship to Canada. I am just looking for a basic system. More likely an AMD powered one. Maybe Athlon aroud 1.4 GHz, 256 DDR Ram, 40 GIG Hard drive, 64 MB DDR Grfx Card (ATI most likely) and a CD-RW. Anyone know of a good website that is cheap in price but also ships all over North America. I am located in Canada.

Thanks for any help in advanced.

you might try www.ncix.com
my brother just got a orinoco card from there, and a friend of mine ordered his computer from them, plus there in Richmond, BC.

they don't have the lowest prices but there pretty good still, and they ship all over north america

I have had a lot of luck searching here for hardware http://www.computers-canada.com/ lists places all over Canada. It was best when I found a good price online then took it to a local shop and they matched the price, cutting out shipping and the wait time

Have you thought about building your own system instead of bying a prefab?

Here in Sweden it's illegal to sell a PC without an operating system. This means that whenever you buy a PC you have to pay the Microsoft tax. If you are going to run a Linux only system this is a real waste of money.

It's not illegal.

Hmm, now you have me doubting myself. :) Do you mean that it's not illegal in Canada or not illegal in Sweden? :?

Anyway my point is that buying a pc without Windows will give you another $100 towards hardware. (If you need Windows then this is a moot point )

Another nice thing about building your own PC is that you can make sure all the hardware will work.

I'm not saying this is the right/only way to go. Just some thoughts.

Where do you live in Canada? You could probably find someone to build a box for you here in the States; I know that there's a substantial number of people in the forums living near the border.

You could even arrange to pick it up in Portage, Wisconsin. :D

my advice: build it yourself! ...buy the components separatly ...this way you'll know what you got and then build it yourself ...you'll 1) learn from it 2) you'll have fun 3) you can be more sure it'll still work tomorow :)

do it ...it's not a biggie ;)

btw: you get more guarantie (in my expirience) on components than on a pre-built

Thank you everyone for sharing your ideas. I am looking forward to building my own PC soon. Just one thing that bugs me. What happens if something goes wrong and I want it replaced? Would have to send the broken part back to ncix.com ?
