Every now and then my X session goes into 99% CPU usage
and it never goes down again. I can't click on anything but I can still move the mouse.
I can't change to another terminal or kill the process remotely
because when I kill X (via ssh session) everything just hangs.
About 4 minutes ago it happened again this time while scrolling down a discussion on these very forums.
Now I wonder if anyone else has this problems. Right now my Linux is worse than WinXP... I use both Gnome and KDE mostly gnome now since I can't compile kdelibs-3.0.4-r1
The only way I've found to cure the problem is to reebot and hope it doesn't happen again. My Logs show no record of any errors.
AMD XP 1800+
256Mb RAM
Geforce 2 MX 400 32Mb

On a completely different machine I had a problem like this (Ibm thinkpad t22), and for me it turned out to be an x11 video driver issue..... namely there was a hardware bug that they needed to work around. I upgraded the driver and things went back to working fine. Not sure if you're in this kind of a situation. I've had no problems lately. |
