I am trying to reinsall gentoo 1.4-rc1. I got past bootstrap and I want to install glibc-2.3.1. I emerged glibc-2.3.1 after the stage1 bootstrap. Now I want to do an 'emerge -pe world' and get this:
emerge: all ebuilds that could satisfy "virtual/glibc" (from ebuild / sys-apps/groff-1.17.2-r3 merge) have been masked.
So what I want to know is what is "virtual/glibc" is and how do I get around it? I know that "virtual/glibc" is not peculiar to groff.
Thanks,

Well since you are into running unstable software (Glib 2.3.1 is considered unstable on gentoo) You might as well add:
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" | to your /etc/make.conf file. This tells portage to run the unstable software (no worries, any thing that is REALLY broken gets masked in the package.mask file ) |
