I just installed Gentoo. I cannot say that I a "Linux Guru", but I use Linux, mostly Mandrake and Russian Mandrake like distros.

I feel a lack of documentation about Gentoo specific administration. Most of existing books and HOWTOs refer to Red Hat and other famouse distribution.

It would be very helpfull to get an article(s) about Gentoo structure and philosophy.

Especially I want to know how to install and activate deamons, configure users and (my Russian interests) configure languages.

If there was some prototype distribution for Gentoo, please give me a pointer. May be I can find answers there.

OG

Here's an article about Gentoo's init system. It's a good read.

I agree... I would love to see more of this sort of documentation.

How did you find this? I can't seem to navigate to it from the www.gentoo.org site.

Azarah mentioned it on the mailing list.

He said he doesn't feel it is good enough for an official doc yet, that's why it's not linked to on the gentoo main page.

That's silly, any documentation (that is accurate) is better than no documentation at all, even if it may need work. I don't understand the "logic" in pushing unstable/(untested!!) ebuilds and portage and holding back on documentation.
