I setup my cd burner with hdd=ide-scsi in gurb per the instructions. But I still do not have access to this drive. Do I need to put some sort of an entry into fstab? |

Have you compiled the kernel with the correct options?
Check out https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=20175 for the options, looks like these options are correct, but I didn't need the vendor specific extensions.
Some good news: kernel 2.5 is being reworked and you don't need scsi-emulation anymore, furthermore it can extract audio using DMA, so all will be well in kernel 2.6

I'm running 2.5.47-ac3 + gen2 unstable and I alsa ran 2.5.45 / 46 but the new 2.5.48 kernel has some bugs that prevent me from compiling, so I will wait for 2.5.49. However, I don't recommend running 2.5.x yet, I'm just plain stupid and try to break my system every change I get, , however it still runs fine, with some minor problems once in a while (compiling cdrecord gave some minor problems, I had to temporarly change the scsi.h header).

Heh, the joys of running unstable kernels
I remember when I started to run 2.4 beta kernels and those were definitely bleedin' edge. I had to run that for the matrox g200 card just for DRI to play quake 3. Was a little unstable in most places but it was seriously cool to use it
I think I'll wait to play with 2.6 kernel

Good info! I have done most of that, at least the parts that were included in the installation instructions. I will do the rest now. |

I also need to put an entry into fstab. Any idea what that entry should be? |
