It is just I was thinking it shouldn't be there sinse it is in interm stage in between beta2 and beta3. Just a snapshot, but I guess it would not hurt anyone, as it is not nessesery that it makes it to official portage
I do recomend it, as I am yet to see a problem with it in any web chat, or any app using java(using 2.6.7-love7, linux-headers-2.6.7-r1, glibc20040619+nptl,gcc 3.3.3 -- being conservative there )
Well there was one in... HO (www.hattrickorganizer.de) java init script said "your java is too old" . Already submited the bug report about it in program forums http://mitglied.lycos.de/qzchen/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1391 _________________ Sky is not the limit...

Hmm i didn't even notice, sinse I dont even remeber when is last time I started gkrellm to see my sensors readings, but yes there is a problem and it would be great to fix it. It works, shows all the readings, but takes up 99% of CPU time... |
Actually there are no readings at all for me with plain love. Sensors work fine with both plain mm6 and love with bk-acpi reversed.
ryszardzonk wrote: | I would reverse bk-acpi.patch, but my question is why it breaks bootsplash |
I suppose the patch actually fixes something that bootsplash needs to work properly
ryszardzonk wrote: | I do not really fell as trying to fix something, breaking something else. |
Neither do i, i prefer bootsplash over sensors with the need to reversepatching.

For the brave:
Try this patch if you want to run Staircase 7.9 on love7.
My process:
Got a 2.6.7 kernel
Patched with mm6
Patched with love7
Reversed mm6-np5 (one hunk fixed)
Applied from_2.6.7-mm6_to_staircase_7.9
Applied schedrange (for mm6)
Applied schedbatch2.2 (for mm6)
Applied schediso2.2 (for mm6)
Applied autoswap (for mm6)
Applied vm_autoregulate2 (for mm6)
Applied default cfq (from ck5)
Applied config_hz (from ck5)
Applied cfq-bad-allocation.fix (from ck5)
In other words, this has the ck5 scheduling goodies on top of love7. It compiles for me, but I haven't been able to test it yet (so only try this if you're brave).
I'm not responsible if this blows up your computer and so on.
Applies on top of love7.

Excellent. I will give that a try when I get home. I see you also got the cfq bad allocation fix in there.
You notice any performance difference with the staircase scheduler? |

Well, I haven't tried 7.9 yet (as I said, I haven't been home to test yet. I just compiled through a remote connection ).
I've been using 7.8 or 7.7 (I forget which exactly). Window movement seems a little jerkier, but repainting is better (most things get updated when uncovered, rather than when I stop moving the window). If you don't like that you can renice X to be a little positive and get smoother window movement with delayed repainting.
My big reason for running staircase was to get batch scheduling. I was having problems where some karamba themes would briefly spike my cpu and drop my fps in games, so they'd be jerky. Even running at nice +19 this would happen (with any scheduler). Staircase seemed a little better at this than nicksched, but the real boon is that I can set karamba to run in batch mode, so it only gets run with leftover cpu (instead of a low percentage). That way karamba can't do anything to interfere with quake.
It's not an ideal solution (then again, I've not totally determined why this happens at all), but it seems to work.
Many people report one or the other as being a lot faster, but I haven't noticed a big difference one way or the other. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

Dolio - i applied your patch, but it failed to compile with the following:
Code: | fs/built-in.o(.text+0x448ac): In function `ent_writes_page':
: undefined reference to `PageActiveMapped'
fs/built-in.o(.text+0x448bd): In function `ent_writes_page':
: undefined reference to `PageActiveUnmapped'
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1 |
*update* got it to compile by changing line 345 of 'fs/reiser4/entd.c' to:
Code: | if (PageActive(page) || ent->nr_all_requests == 0) |

Hmm...
I encountered that same thing last night when I was trying this.
Last night, I made the sources, diffed, and then remade them with my patch. I encountered the error.
Today, I made the sources and compiled and everything worked. So apparently something is wrong with my diffing...
What options should I pass to diff (what do the love guys do)? I've been using -Naur, but I'm open to suggestions.
Edit: Or maybe I'm just not compiling reiser4 today (looking closer at your fix)... I guess further study is needed. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

Nope, anything java crashes on my machine since I stepped up to love 2.6.7-r5 and beyond. I'v had to remove the java browser plugin so the browser wont crash when it hits embedded java.
Sorta annoying since everything else works perfectly. |

I'm running with the patch I posted earlier with no problems so far.
Reiser4 has problems, it seems, as it doesn't link with my patch. neenee, when you made that change, does it run successfully?
Anyhow, if you're not running reiser4, and you want to use staircase 7.9, this appears to work. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |

well I use new beta version of java from SUN and I ma yet to see a problem in my browser, or standalone app
emerge -C <whatever java You use>, and then try this ebuild https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=35009&action=view
it is part of this bug https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56449

first of all delete that "vga=0x317" form your config and then read this https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1322749#1322749 _________________ Sky is not the limit... |

well I noticed that too, but after reading the help I thought it wouldn't be necessary. It was also noted as deprecated, so I didn't bother to check that option. I'll give that a try now...

Yeah, when nicks scheduler and reiser4 are mixed the Page Active changes are needed (the Mapped and Unmapped part) in the ent file neenee mentions, when you reverse the nicks sched, you need to then change the ent file back to it's original form.
Unfortunately, with this many patches it's never as easy as just reversing a few of them and adding more. It does seem, however, that neenee has fixed this problem. |

Do you have SMP enabled? I had the same problem, and I disabled SMP and got it to boot. I still had some stablity issues, and I really want to have SMP enabled, so for now I'll stick with 2.6.7-rc3-love2, which is working just fine.
So, if you don't need SMP, disable it and give it a try, you might be luckier than me. |

Thanks again jou!!!! I still think it's weird that a deprecated module is needed to be able to access my sata drives though...
just glad that it works now

vertigo: SMP is Symmetric multiprocessing -- if you have multiple processors, you want this.
I was wondering if badram could be reincorporated into love. I tried patching the kernel myself, but got one failed hunk. |

SMP = "Symmetric multi-processing" is a way for the kernel to use more than one CPU.
If you look in you kernel configuration in "Processor type and features"
you see that you have an option for "Symmetric multi-processing support", if it is enabled, you can disable it and give it a try. |

Ok, I tried fixing the hunk with my noob skillz. The page-flags.h.rej showed that Code: | + #define PG_badram 20
| needed to be added. Unfortunately, 20 was already taken. So, I made it 23 in page-flags.h. I compiled the kernel, moved the kernel to boot, etc. But, when I boot, I invariably get a kernel panic when doing something.
I assume I need to do more than change the number. |
