more weirdness ... I have problems writing to /dev/log. I am running metalog. Example: if I try to do a usermod
| Code: | | # usermod -G wheel joe |
it hangs. running it under strace shows that it is stalling on a write to /dev/log. Same happens when I try to su.
any ideas?

I think this and my previous port about cron are related. cron requires metalog and metalog seemed to be somehow snookered. As soon as I restarted metalog, all commands that needed to create log entries started working again. I am still not sure about cron though ... I will try starting it again and see if it get all bent.
