I cant seem to get it to load glx. But other than that, it installed fine with 4k.
Anyone else have a glx problem with it? |

Got it... Had to remove the old nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel. I had to nvidia-installer --unistall the 6106 to remove its kernel too. |

Speaking of 4K stacks, what are they for anyway? What are the advantages over the old default (8K)? I've always wondered, but never asked.
Anyway I'm going to try the new drivers now. Yay. Nice to see they finally included the config utility that was in that old leaked beta. |

Technically, no, as this one was started a few hours before that other one. It's that other one that's a dup. |

Well, this could discuss the gaming aspects of the new driver whereas the kernel thread discussed about driver itself and the amd64 thread on amd64 compatibility, so I'd suggest retaining these threads at least on few sections before marking as dups. |

Installed ok with ebuild from the bug report, normal quirks, rebuilt kernel with 4k stacks, KDE started fine. Started armyops and things looked good..... froze up when I clicked refresh but it's done that before. Killed it and ran it again from a konsole, refreshed fine, went to sandstorm fine, selected team fine, selected weapon fine, hit f2 and went to the northern view area.... screen starts to "jiggle", f2 back and "jiggle" stops. Game starts.... major jiggle, but the FPS are better than the old driver! lol Anyway, that's playing in a 1024x768 window. Alt enter to fullscreen and jiggle is gone but then I'm stuck their because apparently KDE remebers the window/screen/fullscreen setup but wouldn't return it to the window. lol I have some null options in my xorg.conf because I have dual displays and saw that helpful tip by someone here I belive.
Overall it works good, something strange with the windowed mode though but that could be KDE but I'm not sure, never spit out any errors except for when I tried to alt-enter back to a window. Performance is good, much better than before. |

Humm... I had it working fine with kde-3.2.2, then I installed kde-3.2.3. Now I cant get glx to work. Ive reinstalled the nvidia driver three times with no luck.
I tried opengl-update xfree (just for fun). It switched fine. I couldnt get it to switch back to nvidia. It says there are five opengl to choose from but mine was stuck in xfree. Reinstalled again, and still no glx.
I am going back to kde-3.2.2 to see if can get glx back. Anyone else having these problems? Or know a way around them?
This is all I get with opengl-update nvidia...
Code: | Gentoo root # opengl-update nvidia
usage: opengl-update <GL implementation>
note:
This utility switches between OpenGL implementations. Currently there
are five supported implementations, "xorg-x11" "xfree" "nvidia" "ati"
and "mtx", the implementations for X.org, XFree86, nVidia, ATi
and Matrox drivers respectively.
examples:
opengl-update xorg-x11
This will setup things to use libGL.so from X.org.
opengl-update nvidia
This will setup things to use libGL.so from the nVidia drivers.

It appears that the ebuild from the overlay is broken for nvidia-settings. This is a minor problem for me, really, so I can wait until portage is updated with the official ~x86 ebuilds.

I had a problem getting neverball-1.3.1 to compile, I switched to opengl-update xorg-x11, and it compiles fine. I'll switch to nvidia back afterwards, and hopefully it will work!
The errors were:
warning: implicit declaration of function "glActiveTexture"
warning: implicit declaration of function "glBlahBlahBlah"
I'm not so sure about the second one.
EDIT: It worked!
That game just keeps getting better! |

Yeah mplayer segfaulted for me, but I recompiled it (mplayer) and it was fine. ("undefined symbol __nvram0035" or something). I imagine it has something to do with the vidix drivers. Try recompiling neverball and/or xine
EDIT: No, wait it didn't segfault. It was an "error loading dynamic libraries: undefined symbol __nvblahblah0035".
These nvidia drivers are a fickle beast. |
