I've noticed that some builds override my CFLAGS and I am curious why. Like when I emerge glide-v3 it will use a (deprecated) -m486 flag which seem to negate all my nice CFLAGS. The winex-cvs ebuild seem to have its own flags too. I've seen it on other builds as well, so why do some builds have their own flags? I would feel most comfortable if ebuilds only fickled with the -O flag and added -m and -f flags if necessary.

I think it is because the devs have found that some code will break all the time if it is compiled with aggressive optimisations.
I think it is also a gcc-2.95 vs gcc-3.2 issue and the fact that some people are still using "hacks" that worked in gcc-2.9x but no longer work in gcc-3.2 _________________ Troy
