remember, gentoo is from the source :D

could you be more specific on what "seems" different?

nope. :D

take a look in your /usr/portage/kde-base directory. anything else for a base kde can be emerged by just looking there.

other kde/qt apps can be emerged (such as cdbakeoven, grustibus, etc.) or you can find them on the net, of coarse.

if you're looking for a particular app, look in the portage dir and/or ask around.

yep. :D

gentoo is all about what you only need -- customizable, and speeeed!

I think minus the bloat a lot of the other distros pack in also summize to the overall speed of gentoo.

gentoo4ever!

I just put redhat73 last night and i realy heared my HD working...like a gun mashine...
When i turn to gentoo even i don't feel that i have a HD :-)
And more faster...redhat boots in more than a min, and gentoo less than 20~30.secs

yeah, i used to use mandrake and well, some other os i rather not mention.

mandrake would madly access the hard drive at the weirdest times -- probablly some cronjobs I had no idea about. I tried upgrading to kde3 from the rpms under mandrake but some things just didn't seem right. I wanted to try out the mosfets liquid plugin but documentation and support i was finding was not very encouraging.

i was finding out that mandrake, redhat, and as well as probably some other distros were putting the config files and app directories in non-standard places. compiling it under mandrake didn't work, so i just gave up.

ironically I ran into gentoo about a month ago, and never looked back.:P
anyways, i'm just rambling.

late
