|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to install the Alsa drivers for my SB LIve soundcart.
When using the guide I removed all soundsupport form the kernel except for soundcardsupport (as a module).
Then I did the steps described in the guide :make dep clean
& make modules modules_install.
Is that all? DOn't I have to recompile the kernel and move it to /boot to make it effective??
Cause when starting the alsa drivers i get the messages about errors with emu10k1 not loaded etc. _________________ http://www.linuxlamers.org |

Isn't it supposed to be
Code: | make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install? |
I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but try doing that, then copying to /boot and rebooting. After doing a make clean you have to reemerge alsa-driver too |

Just for anyone who's interested, I was having the same problem. I followed the above tip (make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install) after having tried and retried to follow the alsa install doc, and now it works just fine.

If you had previously compiled the sound support for your card into the kernel, you indeed have to recreate the bzImage, because else, your sound card gets accessed by the drivers built in the kernel, and alsa can't reach it any more |

Thnx all, indeed, I had to recompile the kernel and copy it to /boot again for Alsa to work.
Maybe it should be changed in the guide cause the guide also assumes you have the audio drivers compiled in the current kernel.

um yea I did that recompile the kernel thing, copied bzImage to /boot, and rebooted. Tried to boot into the kernel, then halfway through an error message appeared. See my post in Newbies about the recompiling kernels.
Dontcha love it when you get good advice?? |
