I was wondering if gentoo ppc is supported on a powerbook 5300ce.
Okay, first off, I am not the devil
Through some tragic means, I will have one of these powerbooks (with a non exploding battery, color screen, 1.1 GB HD, 32 megs of ram, external cdrom drive, and ethernet access), and I am interested to see if I can stretch out gentoo a bit to get it working on it.
Whether X will be supported I don't know, but from what I read of the docs the 603 is supported, so I'm assuming the 603e is a step higher and is supported. Are there any prebuilt binaries that will work for this system? (as I hear build times will be ungodly long)
Anyway, any input on this would be helpful. It may just end up being better to have os 8 or 9 on this system, but if linux & x would actually work, then I'm willing to try it out at least.
Thanks,

I dont think it will work, I am pretty sure this machine is considered a 'nubus' model and not PCI |

Ahh okay, didnt think there was much of a chance myself anyway. Just thought I'd ask before I tried or returned it.
I'm going to try to return it for a refund (what happened was that I was looking for a cheap portable data tool, but didn't find out until afterwards that it was a road apple). Hopefully, the net loss on restocking fees will not be as great a net loss as not getting anything back for it. It wasn't really that expensive in the first place, so no great loss overall anyway.
Thanks,
