ACPI Problems on a epox mb

I can't seem to get acpi working.

I can boot 2.4.19 fine except that it saids ACPI tables failed to load.
I tried the acpi-sources that are in the portage tree and I compiled that kernel with all the acpi stuff but when I try to boot that kernel all it does is say kernel uncompressed then it reboots. I also tried to apply the acpi patch to 2.4.19 from acpi.sf.net and that does the same thing.
