I've done a emerge -u glibc wich nicely updated my glibc after giving me a headache for 2 days.. now.. I have glibc-2.3.1

All my packages are still linked to 2.2.5 NOTHING works anymore... what did I do wrong? How should I have updated ?

More important.... is there any way to fix my system?

Please help it's kinda an important server :(

Did you upgrade to protage 2.43.
All version pior to 2.43 seem to likely problems with the links to the libraries.
See:

Good luck

you can try to do a ldconfig (this will relink all your libs)

If that doesn't work you can try to boot with the live-cd and relink all the libs yourself. (or just the ones that ldconfig wants and do a ldconfig afterwards)

I've tried both,

ldconfig relinks to glibc-2.3.1,

symlinking my self was a problem because all the old files where removed (autoclean function :( )

i've copied the libs from the cd an linked them. worked a bit, complaining alot about versions still.. :(

Follow the link i had posted. There are instruction for "library-borked" systems. Ldconfig is also worth a try.

Quote:
Users experiencing missing library symlinks can do the following:
# ldconfig
# emerge rsync
# emerge '=portage-2.0.43'

did that but as i said, ldconfig links back to glibc-2.3.1 and emerge will not function with that lib (python breaks on it)

:(

Does emerge -V work (the V is uppercase)?
