Okay I want to install Gentoo tommorrow. Anyways I want to repartition my HDD for it.
My Current Setup:
/dev/hda1 NTFS WindowsXP 32GB
/dev/hda2 ext2 SuSE Linux 3.8GB
/dev/hda3 ext2 LFS 1.0GB
/dev/hda4 Linux Swap 512MB
I want to change it to:
/dev/hda1 NTFS WindowsXP 25Gb
/dev/hda2 FAT32 Storage 5GB
/dev/hda3 ext3 7.5GB
/dev/hda4 Linux Swap 512MB
Any ideas? Getting a paid program such as Partition Magic is out of the question. Also my floppy drive hasn't been working correctly so booting something from a floppy is out of the question. Otherwise I format my entire drive with fdisk and install all my OSes from the begining. In which case I'd make a small partition for the mbr. |

The key is finding a free tool that will repartition NTFS -- I looked for one a few months back and couldn't find one. GNU Parted is a great tool, but doesn't work on NTFS. There are several commercial apps that will work, but you said those aren't an option for you.
So, looks like fdisk may be your only option.

Um...this isn't possible -- the mbr is already a defined part of your hard drive. (the first 512 sectors, I believe) You can't create a partition for it. Perhaps you mean a small /boot partition?

My advice, download MDK 8.2 cd 1 and use their partition program. Save and quit the install, then install Gentoo. Not sure if it will resize NTFS though. |
