|
|
I am having a problem emerging KDE on my fresh install of Gentoo 1.4
I typed the command emerge kde and it got as far as emerging kde-base
gz and received the following error message:
ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully. Function kde_src_compile, lines -6658, exitcode 2 died running emake, kde_src_compile :make
Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong here.
Even though the install of KDE falls over, I can now access X Windows and have configured my USB optical mouse. Nvidia drivers are also working perfectly.
Any help greatly appreciated. _________________ Cheers

I have the same problem. As a complete gentoo newbie, but a very long time Linux user, I find this frustrating.
More details:
My system: Dell Inspiron 8100
Gentoo build: started from UT livecd (1.4.1), then used stage3-i686_pentium3-1.4_rc1.tar.bz2.
Using a freshly emerged xfree86-4.2.1.
Same exact error as above, when compiling xftlex-kfi. I notice that bug 9423 has been posted with the same error.
My newbie question is: is it safe to unmerge xfree86-4.2.1 and all the kde stuff and then emerge xfree86-4.2.0-r12 and then kde? I suppose I'll also have to remerge (x)emacs at the same time. (oh well...better than a full rebuild, right? right?) |

and it works for me... But as they say, it is not a fix, just a workaround.

Quote: | type this (literally):
emerge unmerge xfree
emerge =x11-base/xfree-4.2.0-r12
emerge kde
emerge unmerge =x11-base/xfree-4.2.0-r12
emerge =x11-base/xfree-4.2.1

I have the same problem. I've been emerging and re-emerging KDE for days. I receive the same error as the ebuld constantly dies. Frustrating as hell. Gonna use the Xfree workaround tonight sometime. Hopefully that will work. I'm glad I found a possible solution, thank you to whoever located the workaround. |

if you read that bug now, it says that the workaround is not working for everyone, someone also posted a patch to kde to make it work with xfree86 421. I'd suggest that.
Or just try emerging kde-3.1beta2 as it probably doesn't have the same problem. |

It konks out on me with a similar message, except 'Line -6677'.
However, I have kde 3.0.3 up and running. So that would be another option for those trying to get kde, but not overly concerned about the 3.0.4 version. |
