Has anyone had any success getting 5.1 sound running in alsa with the cmipci driver? (cmedia 8738) The docs say
Quote: | For using 4/6 channel playback, you need to specify the PCM channels as you like and set the format S16LE. For example, for playback with 4 channels,
snd_pcm_hw_params_set_access(pcm, hw, SND_PCM_ACCESS_RW_INTERLEAVED);
// or mmap if you like
snd_pcm_hw_params_set_format(pcm, hw, SND_PCM_FORMAT_S16_LE);
snd_pcm_hw_params_set_channels(pcm, hw, 4);

I have this in /etc/modules.d/alsa but is this the correct place?
Turning on 5.1 channels in mplayer or xine results in very bassy distorted sound, and nothing from the center channel. I had even less luck with ut2003. Can anyone help? |

the problem with these posts is that everyone either only talks about SB Live and Audigy or if not that, then if/when they get cmipci working they don't say how.
So far my problem stands: if I try to get 5.1 sound from xine/mplayer by setting five_lfe_channel in xine or 6 channel in mplayer, the sound is heavily distorted into a low frequency mush.
I did try the oss driver, even though alsa is supposed to be the new linux sound standard, and that got me only the center channel and a high frequency distorted sound. Therefore i'm sticking with alsa. Again, anyone with an idea?
Dan
btw... alsa 0.9.0rc5 is out |
