First off! to quote a great poet "gentoo rox my sox"

Now, I have gentoo on my intel box (nvidia) x and all ... all nice...

however, last night I decided to put gentoo on my mac. (g4 667 powerbook gigabit - pre combo) Downloaded the 1.2 stage1 cd and cranked it up...

when i do an emerge system i get perl 5.6.1 error out (working from memory atm)

basically goes something along the lines of "cant compile test progeam, this is really bad" and then errors out.

I looked thru the forums last night and couldnt see anything really useful.

please help!

I got exactly the same error on perl, trying to install Gentoo on another Powerbook. But I was using a 1.4_rc1 stage 1, so it might be a perl-related problem...

I know im doing the same thing you just need to start with the 1.2 version then setup your network

the run

1st move to a directory that you have space ...
maybe mount the harddrive and run the next command from there.. because if you run it from the tmp one you will run out of space and the fiLe will be corrupted..

Code:

wget  http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/releases/build/1.4_rc1/ppc/stage1-ppc-1.4_rc1.tbz2

then

Code:

tar -xvjpf /*HERE WILL go YOUR PATH*/stage1-ppc-1.4_rc1.tbz2

[/code]

the perl error should be cleaned up by now (was actually a db4 error), try emerge rsync and recompile and you should be fine.
