Hi folks;

I've been pulling my hair out over the past week and have run out of resources (here and elsewhere) to make my sound card work.

I have the questions to ask:

1. When I boot, I see the following messages:
Creative EMU10K1 PCI Audio Driver, version 0.19, 02:24:50 Oct 19 2002
emu10k1: EMU10K1 rev 3 model 0x21 found, IO at 0xd000-0xd01f, IRQ 5
ac97_codec: AC97 codec, id: 0x5452:0x4103 (TriTech TR28023)

I see the above message even with no sound support at all. What is the EMU10K1 PCI Audio Driver and where is it? I don't compile for this.

2. When I try to modprobe the snd-emu10k1 driver I see:
bash-2.05a# modprobe snd-emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r9/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod snd-emu10k1 failed
bash-2.05a#

No such device?! I DO have such a device! IO and IRQ do not seem to be settable for this module. (modinfo snd-emu10k1)

I have read everything here about ALSA problems and recompiled kernel and alsa-driver many times and ways but I'm out of things to try.

Some advice or a pointer to more info would be good. I have already RTFMed all the FMs I can find and followed instructions to perfection.

If it helps to you, I have the machine:
Abit VP-6 SMP w/2 933chips underclocked to 466mhz,
1.25GB memory,
Soundblaster Live (the one that is with an extra card for all the connectors).

If you can help, I will send you cookies. It is not so much fun to do my housework without music, and I don't want to give up on Gentoo.

Peace;
Kim

I have fixed this (finally!)

Procedure:

1. Remove sound card from computer.

2. Take sound card outside.

3. Jump vigorusly on sound card.

4. Go to computer store and buy new sound card.

I went out and got a new Soundblaster Live and plugged it in and it worked without any problems.

:oops:
