I read somewhere that sendmail has more features than needed and STILL pretty hard to setup. Is it true that it's time to switch to another mail server such as qmail or postfix?
Note: the document I read is from people who used to support fervently sendmail(academic people). _________________ bluesky

Hi!
This question asks for yet another flamewar actually...
But: Don't use sendmail. If you want it easy, use Postfix. If you want it lean and sophisticated, use qmail. I don't know about exim, some people will favor that.
I have Postfix, sendmail and qmail in use on several machines. This was just a personal opinion.
edit: If you don't know which features you might be missing, every MTA should have all the features you need.
Hth,
Larde.
P.S. I really love the section about sendmail in The Unix Haters Handbook - well, I love the whole book... _________________ Someday this will be my home... http://moonage.net/

Well, there is something that says that no one could turn to be a linux guru since they don't edit sendmail.cf by hand. Some things are really cryptical, and f**king difficult to understand without a good reference book. Although i've heard great things of Qmail, and most people i know have switched to Qmail, i'm not really impressed with the differences with sendmail.
It's how i feel, although i love the frontend for configuring Qmail
