well, i can run twm, but thats it. whenever i try to run kdm as a non-root user, it says something about preferring that root run it. And when I run kdm as root, then login to fluxbox as a non-root user none of my settings are there... |

How are DISPLAYMANAGER and XSESSION set up in /etc/rc.conf? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I will be honest i don't know much about userpermissions and such, but if ou create a user using superusermod(or something close to that) there is an ebuild to it, the user is allowed to use all x related stuff and most programs. Not sure if you have already done this. Hope it is of any help. And to be able to su to root add you user to wheel. _________________ "Penguins can't fly, but they sure look cute!" |

You are not actually supposed to run kdm (or xdm or gdm etc.) as anything but root. What you do is either set up kdm to start at login (set DISPLAYMANAGER to kdm in rc.conf and do rc-update add xdm default) or you run kdm as root. If you want to run an X session as a nonroot user, you login as that user through the kdm login screen, but you would still start kdm as root. _________________ Kawada

yes, i know that. It was just that after i started kdm as root, and i then logged in as scrllock, the only thing i could do in flux was xterm. i could have done it manually, but te superadduser really helped. thanks. |
