I emerge KDE without changing the make.conf and now i can't
configure my Canon BJC-3000 printer because everybody tell
me that i forgot to emerge CUPS. Do i really need CUPS ?
Can I re-emerge CUPS only or do i have to do KDE completely ?

TIA, Marauder.

it should be no problem just to emerge cups, kde detects its presence;
and add cups to your USE variable.
btw: cups is far better then lprng ad the like IMHO

I found that putting 'cups' into the USE variable and running 'emerge kdelibs' seemed to do the trick. 'emerge kde' didn't seem to detect addition of the cups flag.

If cups is set as a default, ie in /etc/make.profile/make.defaults you should need to compile cups as a USE as it is alreadt set, for my install of Gentoo it is listed, but I installed with 1.2 rather than 1.1a.
