Gimp and MPEG

i was wondering if anyone knew of what tools i would need to install to use gimp to make mpeg's, and preferably a tutorial, i've got a few nice animations i've made in gimp and saved as xcf's but i made them to be used on a VCD i'm going to be making, (just some simpsons episodes i taped and copied over) and i'd like to try my luck at making a menu on a vcd (and despite what some of you might say it can be done.)
