use Jabber. There are many different chat protocols. MSN, Yahoo, AIM, etc... I do believe they are trying to standardize on SIMPLE but XMPP is really starting to take off as well. Jabber (XMPP) is the only open standard right now. (I think, it has been a while since I read up on it) IM should be like email, not controlled by one central server or company. Use Jabber and make your friends use it too! |

Hey eveyrone.
I have noticed that people have SS of Gaim being used for the Aim, ICQ, Y! and such clients.
However, I was wondering...since I have a Y! account already would I need a AIM account (kinda figurin' I do) to chat w/ a friend on AIM?
Thanks much,
