I was wondering if its possible to enter a mirror for emerge. I've been installing emerges and updates for the last couple days, and it seems that ibiblio's download rate for me is getting below a kb/sec :-/ I know my max rate for downloading is ~40 kb/sec on my earthlink dsl connection, and mozilla and such aren't slowed down, so I'm guessing that ibiblio's servers are flooded today or something.

Anyway, any ideas on changing where emerge downloads from?

Thanks

Usually this goes away after a while. I've not been downloading much lately, but my dnld speeds havent been any slower than normal.

Add:
Code:
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror1/gentoo http://mirror2/gentoo"
...to /etc/make.conf. Space-separated URLs to the gentoo directory on the mirror. See GENTOO_MIRRORS in /etc/make.globals for the default.

Okay, thanks for the note. I remember there being something in that etc file before towards specifying mirrors, but I couldn't remember what exactly, and didn't want to screw up portage :P

Anyone know how that file is referenced ?

I always change my settings to the New Zealand mirror at ftp.citylink.co.nz so yeah local is a lot better than getting from the US :)
